Potty Training - Part II
Recently, SMALL FAN likes to wait until he is really on "high tide" before he dash for the toilet. So he wets his underwear and pants and leave traces of urine on the floor as he run. Has been scolding him and reminding him to go to the toilet but doesn't seems to work. My mum-in-law says that it's a passing phase, a lot of toddler went thru this stage. So, for now, I'm training my patient and waiting for this phase to pass :(

I read a few potty training book and the advise is that never scold the kid if there is any 'accident'. But instead, encourage him and praise him everytime he goes to the potty.
ReplyDeleteI have this book that Gaby reads almost everynite about going to the potty. The mummy in the story always says "it's ok, next time u can go to the potty" when there is an accident (meaning the boy pees before reaching the potty).
So if Gaby bu xiao xin pee in his pants, I'll use the same verse. I guess it gives him more confidence about going to the potty.
I know I should never scold him on this, been reading up potty train books also, but sometime it's just so difficult to control my temper, especially when Baby FAN is crying at the background...sigh....
ReplyDeleteI think SMALL FAN could be experiencing some problem that is causing him to regress back to peeing on the floor. I wonder if it's because of his prolong cough and also maybe he felt neglected by me as nowadays I have to keep carrying Baby FAN who will keep screaming and crying if we neglect her. So SMALL FAN always have to play with mummy and mei mei. Maybe we wants more personal attention???
Ya, I think he is craving for attention. Gaby was like that too when Alexius first arrived home. Very 'naughty' and clingy towards me. But now he is better as I have been reassuring him that I love him a lot... and I do spend some private time with him... just he and mummy.
ReplyDeleteI think sometimes you have to learn to 'block out' the background crying... Just this afternoon before I came to work, I was in my room expressing my milk and I have Alexius in the playpan. Then after playing by himself for a while, he started to cry (but I think it's just crying for attention kind of cry and not i am in pain kind). So I just ignored him and carryon with my pump. After a while, he gets tired and he stops.
Sometime I did that to Baby FAN too, just let her scream until she is tire. So now, at night, if she can't get to sleep she will scream with her eyes close.
